‘Tis the season of snow clearing disputes.
Police in the Kootenays say the holidays have officially begun with the first snow shovel fight of the season.
Officers with the Trail RCMP responded on Dec. 3 at 8:45 p.m. to a consensual fight between two local men aged 28 and 33 over a parking spot in the 900 block of Warren Lane in Trail.
Police say the 33-year-old man had cleared a parking spot in the snow when an unsuspecting 29-year-old Trail woman parked in his newly cleared stall.
The man called the woman a “b*tch,” which resulted in her boyfriend—a 28-year-old man—exiting the vehicle and engaging his neighbour in a fight.
The fight escalated into each man hitting the other once with a snow shovel before a stare down stand-off.
The fight ended after the mother of the 33-year-old man exited her home and yelled at the two men to stop.
The two men followed the instructions and the 28-year-old man hugged the 33-year-old man’s mom, and left the scene.
RCMP say no criminal charge will be pursued.
“Please remember to use words, not snow shovels, to solve your winter blues,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich.
