Christine McVie dies at 79

Christine McVie, of Fleetwood Mac fame, has died at age 79.

The English musician died in hospital Wednesday, following a “short illness," according to her family.

“She passed away peacefully at hospital this morning ... following a short illness,” her family said in a brief statement.

“She was in the company of her family .... We would like everyone to keep Christine in their hearts and remember the life of an incredible human being and revered musician who was loved universally.”

McVie was one of the five members of Fleetwood Mac, alongside Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. The band formed in 1967 and McVie joined two years later, after marrying bassist John McVie.

Rolling Stone magazine voted their 1977 album Rumours as the No. 7 greatest album of all time.

McVie left the band in 1998, but returned in 2014.

“There are no words to describe our sadness at the passing of Christine McVie,” the band posted to social media.

“She was truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure. She was the best musician anyone could have in their band and the best friend anyone could have in their life. We were so lucky to have a life with her.

“Individually and together, we cherished Christine deeply and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. She will be so very missed.”
