Total Restoration Services and Castanet Vernon are teaming up to help the less fortunate this Christmas.
The Total Fun Food Drive takes place Dec. 6 and 8.
Conan Ackert, Total Restoration owner, says the food drive is a way to give back to the community.
A food drive was also held in June, to a strong response from the public.
“We've been doing it twice a year now and have had good success,” says Ackert. “We are excited to keep it going.”
Demand at the Sally Ann food bank has gone up 30 to 40 per cent this year, putting added strain on the agency, which will also provide more than 450 Christmas hampers this year over and above the food items normally handed out.
For years, the annual North Okanagan realtor food drive collected thousands of pounds of food, but that food drive is no more. Instead, realtors are focusing on manning Salvation Army Christmas kettles to raise funds for the local Salvation Army.
For the Total Fund Food Drive, people can go online to enter their address and the food will be picked up on the designated days.
“They can leave the goods on the doorstep when they are heading off to work,” said Ackert.
Items the Salvation Army Food Bank is looking for include:
- Pasta sauce
- Soda crackers
- Rolled oats
- Canned meat (tuna, salmon, chicken, etc.)
- Toilet paper
- Cake mixes
- Dry soup mixes
- Canned salmon
- Feminine hygiene products
- Baby items
