BC Ferries cancels all sailings between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island

All sailings cancelled

Snowy and icy roads throughout the capital region on Tuesday led to a number of minor vehicle crashes and bus detours, while strong winds led BC Ferries to cancel all sailings after 3 p.m. between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island.

Sailings from Tsawwassen to Duke Point, Tasaawssen to Swartz Bay, Tsawwassen to Southern Gulf Islands, Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay and Comox to Powell River were also cancelled.

Winds gusting from 70 to 90 kilometres per hour are anticipated, with gusts of 40 to 80 km/h overnight.

BC Ferries says its Customer Service Centre will contact customers with bookings on these cancelled sailings; fees and/or fares will be refunded.

"The safety of our passengers and crew is of primary importance to us," notes BC Ferries.

On Tuesday, a snowfall warning was in effect for Metro Vancouver.

In what The Weather Network is heralding as an "impactful winter storm," southern British Columbia is contending with a strong low-pressure system that is bringing "significant snowfall" to the region late Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning, according to Environment Canada.
