Prince George take over 2nd place in Interior Conference with victory over Warriors

Warriors drop 4th straight

The West Kelowna Warriors losing streak has reached a season-high four games.

The Prince George Spruce Kings Friday scored late in the second and early in the third, then hung on for a 2-1 victory over the Warriors in the first of back-to-back games in the northern city.

The Warriors managed just 16 shots on Spruce Kings netminder Jordan Fairlie, including only two in the final period as Prince George shut things down once they gained the lead.

Jaiden Moriello got the Warriors on the board first with his team-leading 12th of the season. It was the only puck they would get past Fairlie on the night.

Austin Fraser beat Justin Katz with 68 seconds left in the second, then scored his second of the night 42 seconds into the third with the Warriors down a man.

The defence took over the rest of the night.

The Spruce Kings scored once on their four power plays while the Warriors went scoreless on their four opportunities.

The win vaulted Prince George into sole possession of second in the Interior Conference, two points up on the Warriors.

West Kelowna get a chance to even the score when the two teams meet again Saturday night in Prince George.
