Children's Christmas Gift House returns to Vernon's People Place

'Low on cash, big on heart'

The Grinch's heart couldn't help but grow three sizes for a heartwarming Christmas event coming up at Vernon's People Place.

The Children's Christmas Gift House returns after a three-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This is our annual event where children low on cash but big on heart can purchase gifts for the significant adults in their lives," say organizers Melanie O'Hara and Katherine Mortimer.

People Place is seeking donations of new or like-new gifts for men and women.

"Soap, socks, candles, scarves, jewelry, makeup, small tools, coffee mugs, gift cards, the list is endless ... This is also a great opportunity to re-gift anything that looks new," they say.

The event takes place Dec. 10, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at People Place, 3402 27th Avenue.

Cash or gift certificate donations can be brought to People Place or to the Vernon Curling Club.

As well as gifts, organizers are looking for donations of new gift bags, and tissue paper.

You can get into the Christmas spirit by volunteering as one of Santa's helpers on the day or by helping with setup and cleanup.
