Geoscientist Brian Guy seeks seat on Vernon city council

Who's that Guy?

A geoscientist and businessman is seeking a seat on Vernon council.

Brian Guy has been co-chair of the City of Vernon Climate Action Advisory Committee, which developed the city’s Climate Action Plan, approved by council in 2021.

He founded Summit Environmental Consultants in Vernon, employing more than 35 people, and has extensive experience in Okanagan water issues.

Guy has also volunteered by coaching youth soccer and chairing the board of the Okanagan Science Centre.

Addressing the impacts of climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions "to make communities stronger and more livable" are among his key issues.

Guy also worked with Purppl, a Kelowna-based social purpose accelerator, to coach an Indigenous-owned environmental consulting business to help achieve long-term success.

"As a scientist, my decision-making is driven by good data and information," says Guy.

"I've been successful in business, and am experienced in financial management, risk management, governance, and strategic planning. I understand the risks and costs we face due to climate change, and I also see many opportunities to make the community more resilient, more livable, and better as we address climate risks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions."
