Attention all ringette players: get ready to suit up.
The Greater Vernon Ringette Association (GVRA) is calling athletes of all ages to register for the upcoming 2022-23 ringette season.
Registration is well underway, with many returning players ready to hit the ice.
Parents from last season raved about their kids having a great time building friendships, playing the sport, and travelling within BC to compete.
“Ringette in Vernon not only creates a chance for the athletes to get access to plenty of ice time, which is always competitive around here, but it allows for the development of key athletic skills, and they stay active over the winter season,” said the parent of a returning athlete, “In our 10 years of being involved in the GVRA, we’ve seen the sport grow significantly.”
As the sport grows across Canada, more and more universities are now adding affiliated teams to their athletic programs, giving athletes an option to continue the sport after high school.
This was not always an option and it deterred athletes from playing and continuing the sport. Today, more than twol dozen universities host a ringette team in Canada including UBC, University of Calgary, University of Alberta, Laval, Queens and others.
Significant scholarships are also starting to become a reality giving athletes the chance to pursue their athletic aspirations while getting their education.
