RCMP and the BC Coroner Service are on the scene at Kelowna's downtown Marina, they are in the process of recovering the body of a 26-year-old Surrey man who disappeared Saturday evening while his family was in the process of returning a rental boat.

Castanet spoke with a family member who asked us to respect the family's request for privacy as they try to deal with the loss of their loved one.

“It doesn’t make any sense. He was just waiting to use the bathroom he slipped and now he’s gone.”

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue confirmed to Castanet that the search was stopped Sunday evening.

“The RCMP informed us that our services are no longer required,” said COSAR search manager, Duane Tresnich.

The victim’s brother-in-law tells Castanet they were visiting Kelowna from Surrey for the weekend when tragedy struck.
