Maria Creek wildfire now being held, BC Wildfire Service says

Maria Creek now being held

The BC Wildfire Service says the Maria Creek wildfire, burning northeast of Pavilion, is now being held.

In a social media post on Saturday, BCWS said crews will work to fully extinguish remaining areas of heat and flame in the coming days.

“The wildfire is not likely to spread beyond determined containment lines due to the suppression carried out by the BC Wildfire Service,” BCWS said.

The wildfire is estimated be 1,004 hectares in size, and is suspected to have been caused by lightning. The blaze was discovered on Sunday, July 31.

BCWS said on Saturday the blaze was no longer considered a wildfire of note, as it was burning in a remote location away from any communities.

As of Saturday morning, 42 firefighters, one helicopter and five pieces of heavy equipment were assigned to the fire. According to BCWS, crews were using aerial infrared scans to help locate and action hotspots around the wildfire’s perimeter.
