City of Merritt asks drivers to stay off flooded roads after storm dumps heavy rain

Localized flooding in Merritt

There are reports of some flash flooding in Merritt on Thursday afternoon as an intense storm system works its way north toward Kamloops.

The City of Merritt took to social media to warn residents to be careful and stay off the roads after heavy rains created localized flooding on some city streets.

“Please avoid driving or walking through puddles. It is difficult to determine the depth of the puddle and the potential danger,” the post read.

“Please avoid driving during this time. If you must drive, drive slowly through the water.”

The city said none of its storm drains are blocked, but “it may take a while” for the water to dissipate.
