A Kelowna man spotted a grim scene while out for his morning walk Thursday.
“A body covered up in the park on the corner of Lawrence and Ethel. Police are there and have put up yellow tape around the scene," said a local resident in an email to Castanet.
RCMP say they were called for a report of a dead man in Knowles Heritage Park at 7:30 a.m.
"Upon arrival at the scene, the officers verified the male was a deceased a 26-year-old Kelowna resident,” said Const. Mike Della-Paolera.
The BC Coroners Service has now taken over the investigation and they have identified the man and the next of kin have been notified.
“The Kelowna RCMP express our condolences to those who are closest to this young man. It’s a tragedy to lose a young person in our community. We continue to advocate for the need for increased health and support services in our community," Della-Paolera added.
RCMP is also asking anyone who may have been in the area prior to 7:30 a.m. to contact the BC Coroners Service.
“There is no further police investigation or concerns for the safety of others,” said Della-Paolera.
