Spartan Race to tackle Big White as race moves outside U.S. for 1st time

One of the most gruelling races in North America is coming to Big White later this month.

The Spartan Race North American Championships are set for Big White,August 27 and 28.

This is the first time this race has been held outside of the United States and features racers from across the continent to compete in the 21-kilometre event

There is also a 50 km ultra distance and a 10 km super on Sunday that anyone can take part in.

The Spartan Beast, the sport's signature test, is a 21-kilometre course featuring 30 obstacles. Elite athletes will compete for a share of $62,000 in prize money.

"We are excited to finally bring the championship to Canada," said Spartan founder and CEO Joe De Sena.

"We're putting together an epic course that will push our athletes to their limits."

In order to qualify for elite or age group divisions, competitors must finish in the Top10 in their respective bracket at a North American event prior to the North American championship.
