Emergency department to close temporarily at Clearwater hospital due to staff shortage

Clearwater ER to close again

The emergency department at Clearwater’s hospital is once again closing temporarily due to limited staff availability.

According to Interior Health, the emergency department at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, reopening at 7 a.m. on Friday. The department is typically open 24 hours a day.

IH said it “regrets this temporary change to normal operations” and urged anyone in the North Thompson in need of emergency care to call 911 or visit Royal Inland Hospital.

Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital has been the site of frequent closures this spring and summer. Last week, the hospital’s emergency department was closed overnight on Tuesday and all day on Thursday and Saturday.
