ORIGINAL 4 a.m.

A West Kelowna family is looking for answers after they say their son was brutally beaten at Kinsmen Athletic Park early Tuesday morning.

Taylor Lanz, 16, says he was in the park with friends just after 1 a.m.

“We were just hanging out, and a truck pulled up," he said.

The truck had initially driven past the park, but reversed at high speed. Two men jumped out and chased the group of friends.

Lanz says his friends managed to get away, but he wasn’t so lucky.

“I have a concussion, my nose is broken, and there are welts on my back and shoulders. My face has like five cuts, and one of my teeth is chipped,” he said.

Lanz says he was left unconscious by the attack and when he woke up he went down the street knocking on doors trying to get help. Eventually, one person answered and called 911.

RCMP attended the scene and transported Lanz to the hospital where he was treated and released.

“I have no idea why they attacked us,” said Lanz. Aside from being beaten, he was also robbed. When he went to look for his backpack, speaker and other personal items at the park, they were gone.

“There wasn’t any kind of interaction or altercation,” said Lanz, describing one of the attackers as tall and skinny while the other man was described as, “chubbier or like buff.”

Lanz said the assailant's truck was a white Dodge Ram. There was a red car that seemed to be associated with the truck.

Lanz says he didn’t do anything to deserve the beating he took and he wants the culprits found so they can be charged. Castanet has reached out to the RCMP for details on its investigation, but received no response.
