Environment Canada issues severe thunderstorm watch issued for Okanagan

Severe thunderstorm watch

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Okanagan, including Penticton, Kelowna and Vernon but not for Kamloops as of 7:30 a.m.

Weather conditions on Tuesday are favourable for severe thunderstorms to develop which may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

The latest lightning strikes can be found on Google Maps and showed plenty of activity as of Tuesday morning.

Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year and is also responsible for starting wildfires.

Environment Canada issues severe thunderstorm watches when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall.
