Ethanol shortage forcing closure of Esso pumps in Kelowna now easing

Ethanol shortage easing

More Esso gas stations in Kelowna are turning off their pumps.

The Esso at Harvey Avenue and Spall Road in Kelowna has turned its pumps off because they are out of fuel.

“I went to two Esso stations and then I filled up at the Chevron on Spall, but they had a couple of pumps closed too," said local motorist Bobbi Van Riet Monday morning.

Van Riet says the manager at the Esso on Spall told her there is an issue with the delivery trucks that may take several days to sort out.

Esso is owned by Imperial Oil and its spokesperson Keri Scobie says they are dealing with an ethanol shortage at the Suncor Kamloops terminal

"We have a fueling agreement with them, which impacted fuel supply at some stations in B.C., including Kelowna.”

Scobie says the ethanol supply has improved, “and deliveries from the terminal are restarting today, which means fuel will be making its way to impacted Esso and Mobil stations in Kelowna.”

On Friday, the Esso gas station at the Kelowna airport also reported a gasoline shortage and had to shut its pumps down. The sign taped to the pump indicated the shortage is due to the ethanol shortage at the Kamloops terminal.
