A pair of Kelowna runners will don the Maple Leaf at next month's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

Short distance runner Jerome Blake and steeplechase athlete John Gay have both been included as part of Canada's 43-member athletics team at the games.

Blake is listed as a member of the men's 4x100 metre relay team, although it is expected he will compete in the 100 metre race and could also take part in the 200 metres individual and relay races.

He has competed in all four on the international track and field circuit.

Blake won a bronze medal at last year's Tokyo Olympics in the 4x100 relay.

Gay will compete in Birmingham in the 3,000 metre steeplechase, the same event he ran at the Olympics.

He qualified for the final in Tokyo before coming in 15th in the final.

The Commonwealth Games run from July 28 to Aug. 8.
