Lone female player on Kelowna boys team hits grand slam

Grand slam for local girl

A Kelowna U-13 baseball team enjoyed a good showing at the Perfect Game tournament over the May long weekend in Everett, Wash.

Jen Trotman captured the moment her daughter, the only girl on the Kelowna Sun Devils U13 team, hit a grand slam home run on the way to a 15 - 6 victory.

"It's kind of cool, she's the only girl on the team," says Jen Trotman.

Emma Lecompte also had a birthday over the weekend and she got a special surprise when the team went to the Seattle Mariners game on Monday.

"It was funny because she hit the home run on Saturday and then it was her 12th birthday on Monday. We went to the Mariners game with the whole team and she was given a bat by one of the players. So she had quite the birthday weekend."

The now 12-year-old Lecompte will also take part in BC Girls Baseball Day which is being held in Kelowna May 28.

Girls between the ages of 6 - 13 are invited to join the session coached by two of Baseball BC Regional Coordinators for Girls Baseball.

"This event is open to all girls and we encourage anyone who is interested in playing to join us, whether you play baseball, softball or are interested in trying the sport out," states a news release from BC Baseball.

The event goes at Lombardy Park between 3:30 - 5:00 p.m. registration is required.
