Fatal collision involving cyclist on Highway 97 south of Lake Country

Cyclist fatality on Hwy 97

UPDATE 11:54 a.m.

Traffic flow has returned to normal following a fatal collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on Highway 97 near Parkinson Dr.

The stretch of highway between Beaver Lake Rd. and Old Vernon Rd. has been backed up since the fatal collision early Tuesday morning.

Kelowna RCMP are asking any witnesses of the accident to please come forward and contact the police at 250-762-3300.


UPDATE 11:04 a.m.

Southbound traffic on Highway 97 is moving but northbound traffic south of Beaver Lake Rd. past the Jammery is still slow going following a fatal collision between a vehicle and a cyclist, Tuesday morning.

Traffic on northbound Glenmore Rd. is also slow going partly due to traffic volume as drivers are using Glenmore to bypass the fatal collision scene at the intersection of Parkinson Dr. and Highway 97.


UPDATE: 8:42 a.m.

According to the Kelowna RCMP, a crash between a cyclist and a motor vehicle at the intersection of Parkinson Dr. and Highway 97 has turned fatal.

Traffic at the intersection has been reduced to single-lane traffic in both directions.

The police are requesting that motorist and pedestrians avoid the intersection at this time and will provide an update as soon as more details are available.

Highway 97 is crawling south of Lake Country.

A crash near Duck Lake has caused massive delays on both the highway and Glenmore Road.

Motorists say the highway was initially closed for some time, but single-lane alternating traffic has been restored.

Drivers should expect significant delays while traveling through the area.
