Valuable large-diameter cables stolen in break-in at city pump house, police say

Valuable city cables stolen

Police are looking into a brazen burglary at a city pump house that saw valuable large-diameter electrical cables cut and stolen — causing more than $10,000 in damage.

Mounties were called to the Lorne Street pump station just before 11 a.m. on Monday for a report of a break-in, which is believed to have taken place at some point over the weekend.

“If anyone saw anything suspicious at or near the pump station this weekend or knows someone who suddenly came into possession of large electric cables, please let us know,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

“When people steal or damage city property, it impacts all those who live here.”

Anyone with information can call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
