Novice driver blows engine

A novice Abbotsford driver was driving so fast this past weekend that he blew the engine of his vehicle.

CTV News Vancouver is reporting that a 20-year-old driver was caught on video doing twice the speed limit on Highway 1 near Sumas Way at approximately 2:40 a.m. Sunday.

The speed limit in the area is posted at 100 km/h, and the driver is believed to have been travelling more than 200 km/h.

Police say the driver was going so fast that the vehicle's engine exploded.

The driver is now facing charges of excessive speed, driving without consideration and failing to display an N. His car was also seized.
