Pointed fence ban closer at Vernon council in wake of deer impalements

Fence bylaw closer

Vernon city council is expected to bring a bylaw change banning pointed fences closer to reality on Monday.

This follows discussion at council's last meeting in the wake of several deer impalements on pointed fence posts last year.

Coun. Scott Anderson, who originated the motion, noted that the amendment would not affect current fences, just new construction.

Administration is expected to bring forward the zoning bylaw amendment for consideration.

It would prohibit metal fencing pickets extending above the upper horizontal rail.

Three readings and a final adoption are required before the change takes effect.
