Okanagan snowboarders Tess Critchlow and Kevin Hill will compete in the Beijing Olympics

Locals headed to Olympics

It's becoming an every four year winter tradition for Kevin Hill and Tess Critchlow.

The Okanagan athletes have again been named to the Canadian Olympic team heading to Beijing later this month.

Both were introduced as part of the 19-person snowboard team announced Wednesday by Canada Snowboard.

They will compete in snowboard cross.

For Hill, 35, a native of Vernon, this will be his third trip to the Winter Olympics.

"I’m excited to announce that I’ll be heading to my 3rd Olympics representing Canada in Beijing," Hill posted on social media following the announcement.

"Thanks to everyone who supported me on this journey, you guys are amazing!!"

Hill finished eighth in Sochi in 2014 and 14th four years ago in PyeongChang.

Critchlow, 26, a Kelowna native who calls Big White home, will compete in her second Olympics. She finished ninth four years ago.

"I'm so excited to be named to the Canadian Olympic team to represent Canada and Big White Ski Resort," she said in a release from the resort.

"I'm here with the team in Austria training, and we all look forward to getting to Beijing."

The women's event is scheduled to begin at 7p.m.Pacific time Feb. 8, with the men's event 24 hours later.
