Drivers heading to Alberta will have to wait or find another route.
DriveBC has announced an extended avalanche-control closure of Highway 1 between Revelstoke and Golden.
There is no detour in place, and the route is not scheduled to reopen until 9 p.m.
Images from DriveBC webcams show significant snow at the Rogers Pass, but wet highway conditions in Golden. The Forecast for the Rogers Pass area calls for 30 centimetres of snow in the next 24 hours.
Parks Canada notes that large areas of Glacier National Park are closed due to avalanche control using explosives. It says there are very dangerous conditions in both the Alpine and Treeline zones.
If the current forecast holds, Parks Canada expects slides to reach valley bottom runouts.
