DriveBC says Hwy 1 is closed due to downed power lines near Spuzzum

Hwy 1 closed, again

Highway 1 is closed Wednesday morning just south of Hell's Gate Tunnel.

DriveBC indicates the highway closed approximately 2 km south of HellsGate Tunnel due to downed BC Hydro lines and repair crews are on the scene but there is no detour available and no estimated time of reopening.

The original DriveBC tweet indicated the closure was due to a mudslide but they have since revised that announcement.

BC highways have taken a beating in the last several weeks after heavy rain caused flooding and mudslides.

The stretch of Highway 1 between Abbotsford and Hope just recently reopened after crews finished clearing debris and repairing storm damage along the normally busy route.
