New Kelowna Costco expected to open February of next year

Costco move in early 2022

The new Costco warehouse under construction at Leckie and Springfield roads is expected to open sometime early next year.

Company communications officials say the store itself is expected to open sometime in February.

When site work initially began in late April, it was suggested the store could open around Christmas, however that timeline has been pushed back.

Opening of the new gas bar has also been pushed back.

The 24-pump gas bar was expected to open sometime this week, but officials now say it will open later this month or early in January.

Costco was given approval by city council to relocate from its current location at highways 97 and 33 in January.

As part of its relocation, Costco agreed to spend about $2.5 million on several traffic improvements around the new site.

The top priority on the list of road improvements was upgrading Leckie to two full lanes in both directions with a turn lane in the middle.

Other improvements include:

  • Full signal at Parkview Crescent and associated pedestrian crosswalks.
  • Double left proposed from Springfield onto Leckie
  • Full signal proposed at Underhill and Baron Road and associated crosswalks.
  • Reconfiguring the lanes at Baron and Dilworth, and the addition of a northbound right turn lane heading north onto Baron
  • Flashing pedestrian crossing at Baron and Durnin roads.
