Lake Country Fire Department responds to fatal ATV incident on Oyama Lake Rd.

UPDATE 12:27 p.m.

Lake Country RCMP and the BC Coroners Service say they are investigating a fatal ATV collision that occurred on Sunday.

Police received a call indicating there had been an incident, shortly before 5:00 p.m., involving two people who had been riding an ATV in the Oyama Lake area in Lake Country.

When the RCMP officers arrived on scene they found an overturned ATV on Oyama Lake Forest Service Road.

A 27-year-old male driver from Kelowna was pronounced deceased at the scene and a 32-year-old female passenger was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for treatment.

"Due to the privacy of the deceased, as per the Coroners Act, no further information will be released by the RCMP or the BC Coroners Service. The investigation into the cause of the collision remains ongoing at this time," says a news release from the Kelowna RCMP.

One person lost their life in a fatal ATV incident Sunday in Oyama.

Lake Country Fire Department Chief Steve Windsor tells Castanet that they received a call to help with a rescue on Oyama Lake Rd. Sunday at 6 p.m.

"There was an ATV accident on Oyama Lake Rd. Sunday evening."

Two people were involved in the crash, "they were quite a ways up Oyama Lake Rd. and they got separated from another group of people they had been travelling with," Windsor said.

Another report indicates two ATV's were travelling together on Oyama Lake Rd. when they got separated. When the first ATV realized their friends were no longer following, the riders doubled back and found the ATV off the road.

Paramedics attended the scene and transported one person to hospital while RCMP transported the other person down to Pelmewash Parkway where they were met by a second ambulance.
