Police arrest suspects after couple robbed by men outside downtown Kamloops store

Couple mugged downtown

Police are looking to speak with witnesses after an armed mugging Friday outside a downtown store.

Police were called to the 400-block of Lansdowne Street just before 7:30 p.m. after two people entered a store and said they’d just been held up by two men with a gun.

“One of the victims was able to obtain a photo of the suspects, which was shared with officers on patrol,” RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn said.

“Throughout the night, police continued to look for the suspects and were successful in finding them, the stolen handbag and its contents.”

Evelyn said an object resembling a handgun was located on one of the suspects and seized.

The two suspects, both men, were released with a court date pending the outcome of the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident can call police at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Editor's note: A previous version of this story incorrectly said the incident was being investigated by B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office. In fact, the IIO is probing an arrest relating to another incident that took place at the same mall at about the same time.
