Semi tips, takes out power lines in Trans-Canada crash east of Sicamous

Semi tips east of Sicamous

A semi tipped on its side east of Sicamous in slippery conditions on the Trans-Canada Highway this morning.

It appears the big rig also brought down power lines in the crash, which blocked one lane of traffic.

A heavy wrecker was on scene to remove the tractor-trailer from the ditch.

No other details are available at this time.

Meanwhile, Salmon Arm RCMP responded to no less than seven separate collisions over the weekend.

"In one case, there was a two-vehicle collision on a secondary road, and two tractor-trailer trucks slid off the road in separate incidents," says Staff Sgt. Scott West.

"In the two-vehicle collision, one of the drivers was served a three-day immediate roadside prohibition as a result of being under the influence."

West reminds the public to use good winter tires and to slow down and drive to conditions.

"The snow ... is wet and packs to ice very quickly. Even the best winter tires cannot account for these slick conditions," he added.
