ORIGINAL: 11:05 a.m.

Highway 97A south of Sicamous remains closed Sunday morning after large boulders fell on the road Friday night.

The rock slide hit the highway about five kilometres south of Sicamous just before midnight Friday, forcing its closure between Davidson Dr and the Mara Lake Rest Area.

Sunday morning, DriveBC says the area is still being assessed, and motorists can detour through Salmon Arm using Highway 1 and 97B.

DriveBC has not provided an estimated time of reopening.

The rock slide comes after several major highways across southwest B.C. were closed due to landslides in recent weeks, including Hwy 99, where four people were killed last month and one person remains missing.
