Significant snow finally falls on Big White, snow base passes 100 cm

Big White base hits 100 cm

After a slow start to the season, the snow fell heavy at Big White overnight, and the mountain's alpine snowpack is now in the triple digits.

Big White recorded 16 cm of new snow on the hill over the past 24 hours, including nine cm that fell through the night. This brings the mountains alpine base to 101 cm.

“We broke 100 cm base today. New snow, cold temperatures means we're going to look at opening more runs soon,” Big White posted to Facebook.

The resort opened the Bullet and smaller Plaza chairs back on Nov. 26 with an 82-cm alpine base, before opening Black Forest Chair this past Friday.

The sun is out and temperatures are chilly up at the mountain Sunday, but some snow is forecast to return early next week.

With -15 C temperatures on the hill, Big White staff are getting the outdoor skating rink in Happy Valley prepared Sunday. The rink was not in operation last season due to the pandemic.

Additionally, Big White's Saturday night fireworks shows in Happy Valley are back this year, with the first show of the season wowing those on the hill last night.
