Investigation into Rail Trail attack continues, no charges laid yet

No charges yet for attack

The RCMP's investigation into a serious attack on a teenager on Kelowna's Rail Trail last month continues, but charges have yet to be laid.

On the afternoon of Nov. 9, 17-year-old Dallas was riding his bike on the Rail Trail, east of Dilworth Drive, when two men attacked him and stole his bike, shoes and phone.

Dallas suffered a fractured skull and collapsed lung in the attack, and required surgery.

The same week the attack occurred, police found and arrested one of the two suspects in the attack, but he was released on a number of conditions and a promise to appear in court in March, pending further investigation.

Three days after the attack, Insp. Adam MacIntosh of the Kelowna RCMP said some evidence in the investigation had been sent to the RCMP forensics lab, and it can take some time for that forensic analysis to be completed.

Thursday, Cpl. Tammy Lobb said investigators are still waiting for the forensic evidence.

“With certain investigations, sometimes that takes time to get those results back,” she said. “As soon as those results are returned then we'll be able to produce a thorough package that we'll send to the BC Prosecution Service.”

Meanwhile, Dallas continues to recover from his injuries. He supports himself while he works to finish high school, so friends set up a GoFundMe page to help him financially while he recovers. As of Friday, the fundraiser has more than quadrupled its goal, raising close to $23,000.
