Opening day a hit at Vernon's SilverStar Mountain Resort

Powder hounds rejoice

Powder hounds took the slopes of SilverStar Mountain Resort Friday for opening day of the downhill ski season.

SilverStar spokesperson Chantelle Deacon says the North Okanagan mountain has a 90-centimetre base with more snow in the forecast.

“We have 27 runs open,” said Deacon. “We have the Comet (chairlift) the gondola and Silver Queen open. We are early season conditions, so make sure you ski with care. Maybe bring your rock skis; there are some sections you need to be careful on.”

Deacon says COVID mask protocols are in place when indoors, but vaccine passes are not required.

The Star is also getting ready for its busy Christmas season, when numerous events are planned, including the 12 Days of Christmas.

For 12 days from Dec. 21 until New Years Day, the resort will surprise guests – both in resort and virtually – with gifts from the "SilverStar Elves."
