RCMP seeking information after man was assaulted outside of Quesnel homeless shelter

Serious assault near shelter

Quesnel RCMP are investigating after a man was seriously injured outside the city's homeless shelter.

Anyone who may have witnessed the Thursday night assault is being asked to speak with police.

Just before 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 2, RCMP were called to the shelter in the 100-block of Carsen Avenue for a report that a man had entered the shelter, after reportedly being assaulted by another person. The suspect had fled on foot.

When police arrived, they found the 36-year-old Quesnel resident suffering from what appeared to be potentially life-threatening injuries.

The victim was transported by BC Ambulance to a local area hospital where he initially treated, but has since been transferred to a larger hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The Quesnel RCMP General Investigation Section has taken conduct of the investigation and is continuing a video and witness canvass today,” said Staff Sgt. Darren Dodge. “We are asking anyone who was a witness to the incident and has not already spoken to police, or has dash-cam or other video surveillance to contact the Quesnel RCMP.”

Anyone with information is urged to Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211 and cite file 2021-10233.
