With the B.C. government signalling plans to impose COVID-19 vaccination mandates on all regulated health professionals in the province, chiropractors have voted to oppose a mandate.

During their annual general meeting Wednesday, members of the College of Chiropractors of British Columbians voted in favour of Kelowna chiropractor Mark Foullong's motion to “take a stand” against a potential vaccine mandate.

“Be it resolved that the CCBC take a stand to protect and maintain the right to medical freedom of choice for all health/medical interventions for BC registrant chiropractic doctors (not impose any conditions on licensure) and BC chiropractic patients (not impose conditional or discriminatory access to chiropractic care),” Foullong's motion states.

The CBC reports that 78 per cent of college members in attendance at Wednesday's AGM voted in favour of the motion.

Last month, Health Minister Adrian Dix said his ministry was working with healthcare colleges across the province to impose vaccine mandates on doctors, dentists and others working in private practices.

No date has been set for when such an order may come into effect.

On Oct. 26, the B.C. government imposed vaccine mandates for all healthcare workers employed by the province. The move initially put 1,369 unvaccinated healthcare workers in the Interior on leave, but ten days later, that number had dropped to 959.
