Weekly case numbers in the South Okanagan trend downwards, Summerland sees jump

Local cases mostly drop

New weekly COVID-19 cases are dropping down in the South Okanagan and Similkameen, except for Summerland that continues a doubling of positives.

According to the BC Centre for Disease Control, Penticton saw 18 new cases from Nov. 21 to 27, the same number from the week prior.

The Southern Okanagan region, which encompasses Oliver and Osoyoos, saw a drop to just one case, previously stacked a three.

Summerland grew from 14 cases up to 28, continuing the trend of the previous week of doubling cases.

Both Princeton and Keremeos have dropped down to zero new positive cases, seeing low numbers the week before.

COVID-19 vaccination rates have remained steady from the past reporting period. As of Nov. 30, the communities had the following vaccination rates in people 12 and older who have received at least one dose:

Penticton: 88 per cent
Summerland: 88 per cent
Southern Okanagan: 91 per cent
Keremeos: 83 per cent
Princeton: 83 per cent
