Whitesnake introduce fans to first female bandmate

Whitesnake's first female

Rockers Whitesnake have recruited Irish bassist Tanya O'Callaghan to replace longtime band member Michael Devin.

The bass player's departure was announced over the weekend, and David Coverdale and his bandmates are wasting no time hiring his successor, who has previously performed with Dee Snider, Nuno Bettencourt and Tool leader Maynard James Keenan.

"Well, well, well... ladies & gentlemen... boys & girls... we are very proud to announce & to introduce you all to our newest snake... or should I say... snakette!!!" Coverdale says in a statement. "Please give a loud Whitesnake choir welcome to the Irish tornado!!! A whirling dervish of a performer whom we feel will bring a fresh, new, exciting musicality & welcome energy to the band, both in the studio & onstage. Here she is... Irish born & bred... the one & only... Tanya O'Callaghan!!!"

The rocker adds: "For whatever reason, Whitesnake has never featured a female musician in the band before... Bad boys!!! But when we saw Tanya performing with our friend Steven Adler's band at the M3 festival in 2019 we were all blown away...

"An electrifying performer... When Whitesnake & Michael Devin decided to go their separate ways, Tanya was the first person we reached out to & thankfully she accepted our invitation to become a snake... We are thrilled & delighted to welcome Tanya O'Callaghan... Let the music do the talking!!!"

Meanwhile, Devin has confirmed his departure by insisting his decade with the group was "pure magic".

"I will sincerely miss the guys," he said on Tuesday. "They are my family. I wish David Coverdale a most rewarding Farewell tour, he deserves all the love and support on his Farewell that I know the fans will bring to the concert halls.

"I will miss all you fans, you're truly awesome and you've been so much fun to entertain over the years. Thank you for making my journeys over the world so rewarding. All the love in my heart goes out to you guys. Best wishes to Tanya O'Callaghan, a bada** bassist and friend. She will lay down the low end in a most righteous way.

"'Til we meet again... lots of love. Onward."
