Kelowna the third-best tipping city in Canada: Uber Eats

What is BC craving?

Uber Eats has released its third annual Cravings Report, which takes a look at food delivery trends and insights according to the company's orders over the past year.

Kelowna makes the grade in several categories which run the gamut from largest orders, biggest tippers, pickiest, and most polite.

This year’s report offers a snapshot of the popular, most unusual, and some of the wackiest delivery requests and food cravings of the last year.

Canadians use Uber Eats to order everything from nuggets and poutine to garlic naan, gummy bears, bubble tea and everything in between.

Kelowna cracks the top three when it comes to the top tippers in the country. In fact, British Columbia owns the top three spots with Nanaimo, coming in first, Victoria is second followed by Kelowna in third place.

Kelowna was also third place in the category of most picky eaters, trailing St. John's and Regina. The category is defined by the number of special instructions Uber Eats receives from the person placing the order.

"People in Kelowna are among the pickiest in the country as they often add special instructions to their orders - or maybe they just know exactly what they like?"

Not to be confused with picky eating, Uber's most popular special instructions by city has two B.C. cities at the top, with Vancouverites asking for "no green onion" and people ordering in Victoria asking for the most "gluten-free options."

Another interesting takeaway from the data indicates the next five cities on the list — Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Ottawa — all ask for extra pickles. Montreal asks for "all dressed and Quebec City asks for extra spicy.

B.C. is also tops when it comes to the most polite cities, based on who says please and thank you, Nanaimo is number one followed by Ottawa, Kingston and Victoria at number four.

B.C. is in the top ten twice when it comes to healthy eating, but Halifax takes top spot, followed by Kingston, Montreal, Kitchener-Waterloo, then Vancouver comes in at number five followed by Victoria at number six.

The largest Uber Eats order of 2021 belongs to a hungry Vancouverite who shelled out $1,600. The next largest order was $1,300 placed in Montreal followed by a $1,200 order made in Toronto.

The data also indicates that the most popular cuisine is Japanese, followed by Asian, Indian, Mexican with hamburgers and sandwiches rounding out the top five.

The most requested side dish is chicken nuggets, followed by fries, poutine, hash browns, and bagels.

The most popular dessert ordered nationwide on Uber Eats is ice cream, pearl milk tea, cake, donuts and chocolate chip cookies coming in at five.

Some people use Uber eats to order from convenience stores with the most popular items being assorted chocolate bars, regular chips, French onion dip, 2L Pepsi, and AriZona beverages.
