Penticton Search and Rescue teams locate missing 19-year-old man in late-night rescue

Rescued at 1:45 a.m.

Penticton Search and Rescue crews responded to a late night rescue on Tuesday evening, helping the RCMP locate a missing man near the Mahoney Lake ecological reserve.

Crews were called in by police around 9 p.m. after a report of the missing 19-year-old male came in.

Thanks to the SAR management app “Connect Rocket," PENSAR was able to pinpoint the subject’s locations. Rescue crews responded to the area with 11 members and three rescue trucks.

Once the location was confirmed, two teams set out on foot and found the subject in an area of steep terrain in good health.

The male was escorted out of the area and reunited with family members. Crews wrapped up by 1:45 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

“PENSAR wishes to reinforce that if you're heading out on a hike, tell someone where you're heading. Plan for the unexpected- take some extra clothing, food and water and an extra cell phone battery. A little planning and preparation will help when the unexpected happens,” PENSAR manager, Randy Brown, shared in the Facebook post.
