Son of Canucks GM Jim Benning attacked in Yaletown

Son of Canucks GM attacked

Police are investigating after an assault left a man with "very visible" facial injuries.

The attack happened around 2 a.m. on Oct. 17 near the Banter Room, a restaurant in Yaletown. The victim in the attack was one of Vancouver Canucks' GM Jim Benning's sons, according to the victim's sister, who shared information about the incident on social media.

Benning's daughter Danica wrote on Instagram that her brother was waiting for an Uber when he was attacked by four men in their 30s.

In her account, she writes the alleged assailants beat him severely and attacked her when she tried to help her brother. The group of men left the scene before police arrived.

Police say they're investigating the assault.

"A 25-year-old man had very visible injuries to his face. He declined any assistance from paramedics and told officers he would go to the hospital himself," says Const. Tania Visintin in an email.

Danica noted in her Instagram story - which has since expired - that her brother did go to the hospital.
