Tom Cruise flies World War Two biplane for rumoured Mission: Impossible 8 dogfight scenes

Cruise flies WWII biplane

Footage of Tom Cruise learning to fly a World War Two plane has prompted rumours the next Mission: Impossible film will feature a dogfight scene.

The Top Gun star performed four test runs on a 1943 Boeing-Stearman Model 75, with the help of ex-German Air Force pilot Klaus Plasa, the Daily Mail reports.

A video from British news agency South West News Service shows the actor flying short circles and landing amid windy conditions at Duxford Airfield, Cambridgeshire on Sept. 29.

The red-and-black vintage plane, which was once used to train U.S. Air Force and Royal Air Force pilots, was rigged with two cameras to capture the actor in action.

Tom already has licenses to fly helicopters and fixed-wing planes.

Plane spotter Stephen Keller, who filmed the clip, said the actor was "doing a good job."

"He certainly wasn't dangerous. He's doing a good job as far as I can see," he noted.

The A-lister brought the plane down on the grass instead of the runway because, as Keller suggested, the move is "better for those types of aircraft."
