Group of youth observed hanging out of speeding car in Kelowna

Group hanging out of car

Madison Erhardt

A Kelowna resident says she couldn't believe her eyes Friday night while driving down Pandosy Street.

Leslie, who requested her last name not be published, observed a group of six young adults yelling and hanging out a car travelling down the road just before 9 p.m.

"We were at the red light of Highway 97 and Pandosy and they came up on our right side and they were really loud and screaming. I looked over and it was a young girl driving. When the light turned green she just hit the gas and they passed us on the right side and went flying down Pandosy. She was swerving all over."

Leslie says she was concerned for her safety and for those in the car.

"I thought we were going to watch someone fall out, maybe see somebody get run over. It was quite startling and I just hope some parents of whoever the driver of that car [will] recognize it."

Leslie says she attempted to fill out a police report online.

"I didn't call the police which I am kind of regretting now. I did try to do it online, but it wouldn't let me."

"If we were doing the speed limit of 50 km/h she must have been doing 80 km/h."

Leslie hopes that by sharing the video those in the car will be less likely to do it again knowing people are watching.

"We have all done stupid things, but it was shocking thinking someone could have fallen out of that car. With the kids that have just passed with that last accident, it could have ended a lot worse."

Castanet has reached out to the Kelowna RCMP for comment.
