Police investigate a woman's death Sunday morning on Hwy 33

Death deemed 'suspicious'

UPDATE: 11:45 a.m.

Police are calling the death of a woman in Rutland "suspicious," after her body was found on the sidewalk of Highway 33 Sunday morning.

In a brief press release, Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said officers were called to the corner of Highway 33 W and Nickel road just after 7 a.m., where they found the woman's body.

“Investigators from the Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit have taken conduct of the investigation," Cpl. Noseworthy said. "Officers remain on scene collecting physical evidence and canvassing for witnesses and surveillance video.”

Police have yet to call her death a homicide, only going so far as to call it suspicious. The cause of her death or the woman's identity have not been disclosed at this time.

Cpl. Noseworthy is asking anyone with information on the woman's death to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.

One witness was in tears as Kelowna RCMP investigated a death early Sunday morning.

A body was lying on or near the sidewalk at the corner of Nickel Road and Highway 33 in Rutland, right outside the New Apostolic Church.

Police set up black tarps to block off the view of the body, which was covered in a white sheet. The BC Coroners Service was on scene at about 9 a.m.

Officers on the scene are not commenting on the investigation. Castanet will have more information as it becomes available.
