Police check on sinking boat south of Bennett Bridge

Moored boat sinking

A recreational boat moored off the shore near Lake Avenue just south of the William R. Bennett Bridge appears to be sinking.

The vessel can be seen with just the top of the boat above the water.

Rob Sutton tells Castanet he was driving across the William R. Bennett Bridge when he spotted the sinking boat.

"I saw the boat when I was coming across the bridge, all of sudden I saw the police boat come underneath the bridge, so I cruised over to the park."

Sutton says it looks like the boat is sitting on the bottom of the lake, "it's sitting on the ground right now, it can't go any deeper."

Sutton says the RCMP boat circled the vessel and appeared to be taking photographs.

"Looks like police were circling trying to get the hull number off of it and then they left."

Const. Solana Paré of the Kelowna RCMP tells Castanet police were called out for a report of a sinking boat.

"West Kelowna RCMP have now identified the boat’s owner. The boat will remain moored there as it is not a public safety or environmental concern at this time."
