Paving on Highway 97 through downtown Kelowna is expected to continue through the next couple of weeks.

The $3.9 million project will see the highway repaved between Abbott Street and Gordon Drive, while an additional 200-metre section on the west end of the William R. Bennett Bridge will also be resurfaced.

Additionally, a 260-metre section of Highway 33, between Ziprick and Mills roads, will also be repaved as part of the project.

“This resurfacing will support the reliability of the highway system and provide safer driving conditions for the travelling public and commercial truck drivers,” Danielle Pope, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure spokesperson, said in a statement.

While a section of the eastbound lanes of the highway have been torn up near Water Street for the past several days, that section was paved overnight.

While Pope says the project is planned to be completed sometime this fall, DriveBC reports the project is expected to be wrapped up by Oct. 1.
