OKToblerfest the Bavarian-themed event of Homer Simpson's dreams

Cheers to OKToblerfest

A four-day event coming up in Vernon is the stuff of Homer Simpson's dreams.

Putting a local spin on Germany's Octoberfest, OKToblerfest is a collaboration between Okanagan Spring Brewery and Wings restaurant.

Its name mashes together OK (for Okanagan) and Tobler, the last name of Vernon beer wizard and Okanagan Spring brewmaster Stefan Tobler.

The event runs from Oct. 7 to 10.

It starts with an opening night reception at Wings, appropriately fed with beer and bratwurst.

On Friday, for VIP ticket holders only, there will be an exclusive tour of the Okanagan Spring brewery in downtown Vernon, hosted by Tobler himself.

And, of course, there will be more beer and food pairings.

Tobler will give a talk on the brewery's history and how he became a brewmaster.

There will be Bavarian music ... no word on lederhosen, however.

On the Saturday, there's schnitzel and, you guessed it, more beer. Along with another talk: "1516 - is this just a number? No!"

For those in the know, the number represents the Bavarian purity law of 1516, after which Spring's signature beer is named.

The events wrap up on Sunday with a VIP and friends wind up.

Tickets are $40 for Friday and for Saturday or $75 for an all-event VIP pass.
