Crews tackle spot fires jumping from Michaud Creek wildfire

Spot fires at Michaud blaze

The Michaud Creek wildfire south of Edgewood has grown to an estimated 7,856 hectares in size.

In a Thursday evening update, the BC Wildfire Service says crews continue to work on spot fires across Johnson Creek, with helicopter assistance as visibility allows.

Firefighters anticipate they can contain the spot fires, the wildfire service says.

Crews will continue to focus on establishing and reinforcing containment lines in priorities areas to limit growth to the north-northwest.

Further planned ignitions may be possible.

Fire behaviour is anticipated to remain low to moderate due to quieter winds and smoke coverage.

The smoke is currently impeding the majority of air support operations due to visibility and safety concerns. Airtankers will be utilized as visibility allows.

Forty-five firefighters, four helicopters, and 20 pieces of heavy equipment are assigned to the fire.
