Rare paddle boards stolen in Kelowna

Rare paddle boards stolen

A Kelowna couple is left without their primary sources of summer fun after someone stole their paddle boards off of the roof rack of their truck.

Winona and Court Phillips say they typically leave their paddle boards inside their garage, but they had plans to leave in the early morning for Okanagan Lake, so they strapped the boards onto their truck’s roof rack using straps and bicycle locks.

But according to Winona, the thieves still managed to get away with the boards valued at $1,700 apiece.

The couple is hopeful the boards will be spotted soon, because they are extremely rare according to Winona.

"These boards were purchased from a company in Victoria. A close friend of ours started manufacturing boards, and these are boards two and three off the production line purchased before he even had a website. He knows for sure we are the only two people with these two boards that exist in the Okanagan,” said Winona.

Court says not having the boards is a huge hit to his summer.

“We don't have a power boat, so we just like to pull the paddle boards out, and I'm there at 7 a.m. I ride for a couple hours and load them back on, or sometimes I jet out before work. It's something I enjoy doing and do a lot of, and to have them stolen is a big blow to the summer,” said Court.

Winona says their children are also upset.

“We have two kids and they’re 11 and 13, and we try to get them out to exercise, have fun and enjoy our local lake, and unfortunately summer is kinda ruined at this point for our kids,” said Winona.

The couple says the ultimate scenario is if the person responsible for the missing paddle boards comes forward and returns them, but if that's not the case, they are offering a $500 reward to anyone who finds them in working condition.

If you do spot the limited-edition paddle boards, you're asked to call or return them to the RCMP.
