West Coast Animal Advocates and has developed an interactive map to assist those affected by wildfires

Long list of offers to help

With wildfires raging across the province, timely information is vital so an Okanagan woman has created a site for anyone looking for animal care.

Shelby Langelaan is the founder of West Coast Animal Advocates and has developed an interactive map to assist those affected by wildfires, by quickly connecting them to resources and offers of help in their area for their livestock and pets.

“The map contains hauling offers, temporary shelter placement, support from local organizations and much more,” Langelaan said.

Langelaan said there have been numerous posts on social media offering to help those impacted by the wildfires, but people would have to search the appropriate links.

“When people are in crisis mode it is quite hard to go on the computer and do that especially if you have to evacuate,” said Langelaan.

“So we thought we would put it all in once place, make it visual so it's easy for people to find and and use it as a hub to get the information to people when they are on an alert or order so they could find resources easily.”

The site launched Friday and has already received dozens of offers for help from Vancouver Island to Central Alberta.
